Import from Publication

The Import from publication feature allows you to import media clips from another publication you own directly into your current publication. This is useful when multiple publications within your enterprise share content: the clip becomes available in the destination publication without consuming additional storage, and without the need to re-upload or re-transcode the file.

Note:

The Import from publication feature requires publications to be linked via the Enterprise Portal. Contact your account manager or support@bluebillywig.com to have this set up for your account.

1.0 | Get Started

To access the Import from publication feature:

  1. Log in to the OVP and go to Media library in the left side panel.
  2. Navigate to Upload & transcode.
  3. Click the Import from publication tab.

The interface shows a searchable, filterable list of media clips available from all linked publications.

2.0 | Clip overview

The Import from publication tab displays the following information for each available clip:

  • ID: The unique identifier of the clip in the source publication.
  • Publication: The name of the source publication the clip belongs to.
  • Title: The title of the media clip.
  • Length: The duration of the clip.
  • Views: The number of times the clip has been viewed in the source publication.
  • Status: A colour indicator showing the clip’s publish status in the source publication (green = published).
  • Created: The date the clip was originally created.
  • Updated: The date the clip was last updated.

2.1 | Searching and filtering

Use the search bar at the top of the list to search for clips by title or ID.

Click Filter + to apply additional filter criteria.

3.0 | Importing a clip

To import a clip, click the Import button on the right side of the row. The import starts immediately. The button first changes to Importing, and once complete it changes to Imported.

Once a clip has been imported, clicking the Imported icon takes you directly to the clip’s edit page in your current publication, where you can review and update its metadata before publishing.

Note:

Imported clips are always added to your media library with the status Draft, even if the original clip was published in the source publication. Remember to publish the clip manually once it is ready.

3.1 | Imported metadata

All standard metadata from the source clip is imported along with the clip, including the title, description, tags, and other metadata fields.

Custom metadata fields are also imported, but will only be displayed in the OVP if the destination publication has those custom fields configured identically. If a custom field does not exist in the destination publication, its value will still be applied in the clipdata, but it won’t be visible.
