Channel Elements

This article explains how to add Channel elements and the settings that control their behavior. Just getting started? Read more about how to create a Channel and configure the general settings.

Customize your Channel using the Elements tab:

1.0 | Add and edit Channel elements

In the Elements tab, click the “+” icon or “Add components” to add a new element:

There are four types of elements available:

  • Header: Logo/title header or Featured header
  • Video player: Single player, Playlist right or Playlist below
  • Playlist: Slider, Carousel or Grid
  • Featured: Featured or Promotional

1.1 | Header

A Channel can only contain one header element. Two header types are available:

Logo/title header

  • Logo image (optional)
Add an image that displays your company logo or another visual representation of the Channel’s content (PNG format is recommended). The logo is placed in the header of the Channel.
  • Title (optional)
Enter a title to display in the header of the Channel.

Featured header

The featured header is a hero-style slideshow element that fills the top of the Channel. Each slide links to a video, project or playlist, and the header cycles through the slides automatically.

  • Header variant
    • Full width: the header spans the full width of the Channel container.
    • Contained: the header respects the Channel’s maximum width and padding settings.
  • Slides
Add up to 5 slides. Slides can be dragged to reorder. Each slide has the following settings:

    • Content type
Select the type of content the slide links to: Media clip, Project or Playlist.
    • Content
Select the specific media clip, project or playlist for this slide.
    • Featured image (optional)
Upload a desktop image to display as the slide background. If no image is uploaded, the thumbnail of the selected content is used.
    • Featured image mobile (optional)
Upload a separate image optimized for mobile. Falls back to the desktop featured image if not set.
    • Logo (optional)
Upload a logo image to display at the top of the slide content area.
    • Featured title (optional)
Enter a heading to display on the slide.
    • Description text (optional)
Enter a short description to display below the title.

    Header styling

    • Background image mode (mobile) (only available when Header variant is set to Full width)
Choose how the slide images are scaled:

      • Fit: the image is scaled to fit within the header bounds without cropping.
      • Fill: the image is scaled to fill the full header area, cropping where necessary.
    • Page Logo (optional)
Upload a channel-level logo to display in the corner of the featured header (separate from the per-slide logo).

    Player options

    • Play content in
Choose how slide content is opened when a viewer clicks a slide. Defaults to the channel-wide “Play content in” setting. Available options: Channel default, Video player, Deep link, Detail page.
    • Playout (only shown when “Play content in” is set to Detail page, or when the channel default is Detail page)
Override the channel-level playout for content opened from this featured header.

    1.2 | Video Player

Although you can only select one video player per Channel, you can reuse the player block for multiple playlists or featured items.

    • Content type
Select the content type for your player block: playlist, media clip or (interactive) project.
    • Select item
Select the specific item for the selected content type.
    • Title display
Toggle on or off to show or hide the video title in the player block.
    • Layout
Choose how the player block is presented. Three layout options are available:

    Channels player block

      • Single: a standalone player with no attached playlist.
      • Playlist right: the player is accompanied by its playlist displayed to the right.
      • Playlist below: the player is accompanied by its playlist displayed below.
    • Show playlist video titles
When the layout is set to “Playlist right” or “Playlist below”, use this setting to show or hide the video titles in the accompanying playlist.
    • Playout
By default set to “Use channel default”. Select another playout to apply to the video player block.

    1.3 | Playlist

    • Playlist type
Select the playlist type (learn more about setting up a playlist).

      • Regular playlist: a standard playlist.
      • Playlist collection: a playlist that acts as a container for sub-playlists. Clicking a collection item opens an overview page that lets viewers browse the sub-playlists. The “Play content in” option must be set to “Overview page” for this to work.
    • Playlist
      Select the playlist entity.
    • Title
The playlist title appears at the top of the grid, carousel or slider. The playlist title will not be displayed if you leave this field empty.

    channels playlist title

    • Select type of playlist
Playlists can be displayed as sliders, carousels or grids:

    • Playlist styling
Customize the appearance of your playlist by adjusting background images and pagination settings.

      • Description
Add a playlist description or click the “link” button to use the playlist description.
      • Show pagination (only in “Playlist” style)
Display a pagination element in the upper right corner of the slider.

      • Change the following elements for a specific playlist:
        • Font color
        • Background color
        • Background image
        • Logo
        • Content Loading Behavior (only in “Grid” style)
Controls how additional items are loaded when a playlist contains more items than are initially shown:

          • Paginated View (default): items are split into pages.
          • Infinite Scroll: additional items load automatically as the viewer scrolls.
          • Load More Button: a “Show more” button is displayed for the viewer to load additional items manually.
          • Show all items: all items are loaded at once.

    • Preview options
Override the channel-wide preview options for this specific playlist. The same title display, timestamp display and custom field display settings are available as in the General settings.
    • Player options
After clicking a thumbnail in a grid, carousel or slider, the video needs to be shown in a player. The “General” tab contains a setting that determines how playlist videos are displayed for the Channel as a whole (see the Player options section in the general settings). However, it is also possible to select a different setting for specific playlists.
    Note:

We recommend using the general settings for displaying videos from playlists and featured items as much as possible. As the number of grids, carousels, sliders and featured items in your Channel grows, it can become increasingly difficult to track down the setting for a specific element if each one is configured individually.

Use a Featured block to attract extra attention to a specific media clip, special offers or announcements.

    • Featured
      • Content type
Select the type of content to feature: Media clip, Project or Playlist.
      • Featured image
By default, the thumbnail set for the selected item is displayed in the Featured block. Alternatively, you can upload a dedicated image (recommended aspect ratio: 3:1).
      • Featured image (mobile)
Upload a mobile-specific image in a 4:5 aspect ratio for when your Channel is viewed on smaller screens.
      • Featured title
Enter a title for your Featured item.
      • Player options
After clicking the “Watch Video” button, the media clip needs to be shown in a player. The “General” tab contains a setting that determines how Featured item clips are displayed for the Channel as a whole (see the Player options section in the general settings). However, it is also possible to select a different setting for specific Featured blocks.
    Note:

We recommend using the general settings for displaying videos from playlists and featured items as much as possible. As the number of grids, carousels, sliders and featured items in your Channel grows, it can become increasingly difficult to track down the setting for a specific element if each one is configured individually.

    • Promotional
A Promotional block is used to display a banner-style element that links to any URL — for example, an external page, a campaign landing page or another section of your website.

      • Layout
Choose the size of the Promotional block:

        • Large: a wide, prominent banner.
        • Small: a more compact promotional strip.
      •  Promotional image
Upload an image to display in the Promotional block (recommended aspect ratio: 3:1).
      • Click-through URL
Enter the URL to navigate to when a viewer clicks the Promotional block.

    2.0 | Embed a Channel

After adding elements and setting the Detail Page configuration you can embed your Channel. All regular embed options are available for placing a Channel on your website. Learn more about embedding Channels (as well as media clips, playlists and interactive projects).

Using an iframe to embed a Channel limits the ability to open a playlist item in a page overlay. By default, the iframe does not have permission to cover the full browser window with an overlay — only the iframe itself will be covered instead.
