Configure a Shorts item


To change the settings of your Shorts item:

  • Go to the Media Library
  • Click “Shorts” in the left sidebar
  • Select a Shorts item

1.0 | Shorts Metadata

To edit the Shorts metadata:

  • Click “Edit metadata”

  • Enter a descriptive title and description.
    The title and description of the Shorts item are not displayed in the actual Shorts, but serve as a way to easily manage multiple Shorts in the OVP.

2.0 | Shorts Playlist

Shorts are built using a playlist. Learn more about creating and managing playlists

To select a playlist:

  • Click “Playlists”

2.1 | Select a Playlist

  • Select the playlist you want to display in your Shorts player.

2.2 | Viewed clip behaviour

Configure the behaviour of your playlist items when a clip has been viewed.

    • Mark as viewed and move item to the end of the list
    • Mark as viewed
    • Don’t mark as viewed

 

3.0 | Shorts Appearance

To Configure the appearance of your Shorts item:

  • Click “Appearance”

 

3.1 | Shorts appearance

  • Swipe direction
    • Vertical 
    • Horizontal
  •  Show clips before and after the active clip
  • Show navigation buttons

3.2 | Background options

Configure what to show behind your Shorts content. Display blurred thumbnail of clip as background or pick a solid background color.

3.3 | Shelf settings

Configure the display options for the “Shelf” display format.

  • Fit to container height
    Determine the height of the thumbnails in the Shelf based on the height of the containing element. This allows for different thumbnail heights for mobile and desktop.
  • Show outline for unwatched clips
    Display a colored border around clips that have not been viewed yet.
    • Outline color
      Set the color of the outline for unwatched clips. Only available when “Show outline for unwatched clips” is enabled.
  • Thumbnail height (in pixels) (not available when “fit to container height” is enabled)
  • Thumbnail gap: by default 16 px

3.4 | Preview options

Configure the look and feel of your clip previews.

  • Corner radius
  • Show clip title
  • Show clip duration
    • Duration badge background color
      Customize the background color of the duration badge (only available when “Show clip duration” is enabled).
    • Show play icon in duration badge
      Display a play icon inside the duration badge (only available when “Show clip duration” is enabled).
  • Use thumbnails in full screen mode
    By default, we use the first frame of the Short for a smooth transition. If you don’t want this, you can opt-in to use the Short’s thumbnail instead.

4.0 | Shorts Player

To configure the player options:

  • Click “Player”

4.1 | Player options

Configure which player controls to display.

  • Show play button
  • Show title
  • Show description
  • Show share button
  • Show thumbnail preview
  • Show subtitle button
  • Set an accent color
  • Add a logo
  • Logo click URL
    Set a click-through URL for the logo (only available when a logo is selected).

    4.2 | Behaviour

    Configure the behaviour of your Shorts player.

    • Auto play your content
    • Loop clips: display the first clip after the last clip

       

      4.3 | Call to action

      Configure a call to action for your Shorts player.

      • Clickthrough URL source
        Select a (custom) metadata field from your media clip containing the clickthrough URL. Learn more about (custom) metadata
      • Button text
        Enter a text for your CTA button
      • Default button text
        Set a fallback text for the CTA button, used when no metadata value is available.
      • Use accent color for button
      • Select the button position

      4.4 | Share settings

      Select the channels where you would like viewers to be able to share a link to your video. The following options are available: Direct embed, Direct link, Email, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky, X and Whatsapp.

      5.0 | Shorts Monetization

      To add monetization to your Shorts item:

      • Click “Monetization”

      5.1 | Ad frequency

      Control the ad frequency by setting the minimum number of clips between ad calls.

      5.2 | First ad position

      Set the minimum number of clips that should appear before calling the first ad. Leave blank to default to Ad Frequency.

      For example: a shorts has a clip interval of 3, meaning that an ad will be shown after every third clip. However: to create more momentum for user engagement, the first ad position is set to 5, meaning that the first ad will show a bit later.

      5.3 | Ad unit

      Select a Shorts ad unit to connect to the Shorts player. Learn more about setting up ad units.

      6.0 | Shorts Performance Dashboard

      The Dashboard tab provides an overview of your Shorts item’s performance. The following performance metrics are available:
      • Views
        Total number of views across all clips.
      • Unique viewers
        The number of unique viewers.
      • Views per viewer
        The average number of views per unique viewer.
