In this article, you’ll learn about several ways to present additional information to your viewers. Interactive video is all about enabling the viewer to choose what content is relevant to them. With the Interactive Studio you can easily give the viewer the option to get more information if they need it.

A good example would be to show a pop-up or hover message to provide small snippets of information once viewers interact with specific widgets. In other instances, there might be too much extra information to put in a pop-up or hover message. In those cases, it might be more appropriate to share a PDF file with the viewer.

1.0 | Add a downloadable file

Often, additional content is not suited to a video format (for example, references from a study in a pharmaceutical instruction video). In those cases, you can add a button to your video to let viewers download a PDF file.

Upload a PDF file to the Media Library
Also upload a button image
When the upload is complete, drag the button image to the canvas

Select the button and expand the “onClick” section
Click the “navigate to” option
Select the last icon and pick the PDF file you just uploaded to the Media Library

When viewers click the button, the PDF file will automatically start downloading to their device.

2.0 | Pop-up message

The pop-up should only appear when the viewer clicks the button. To achieve this: hide the pop-up in the timeline by unchecking the checkboxes at the start and end point of the widget in the timeline.

Next, change the settings of the button so that you can toggle the pop-up on and off like a switch. To give the button a different appearance when clicked:

Set an alternative image in the “Toggled” menu

Expand the OnClickToggledOff menu and click the “change widget” option

Select the pop-up element and determine what it should do when the button is toggled. Select the “show” option.

When the viewer starts the video, the pop-up message is hidden. After clicking the button, the pop-up element is shown. However, clicking the button again will not hide the pop-up message yet. To also hide the pop-up with a button click:

Expand the OnClickToggledOn menu
Set the pop-up element to “hide”

Another way to provide extra information in your video is by displaying a message (tooltip) as soon as the cursor hovers over an element. You can use this message, for example, to inform the viewer what happens when they click a button.

Adding a hover message is similar to adding a pop-up message. However, instead of using the two OnClickToggle actions from the previous section, the OnMouse actions are used.
