We’re pleased to release the 8.50 version of the Blue Billywig Online Video Platform.

  • We updated the look and feel of the Ad Unit section.
  • URL import now applies a set embargo and derives and can derive the title from the filename.
  • The Shorts shelf now uses the moving thumbnail of the focused video instead of only the first one.
  • Livestream DVR can no longer be rewound past the soft embargo start time.
  • New thumbnail download service — thumbnails can now be downloaded directly from the OVP via a dedicated API, with correct download headers.
  • Refreshed audio player experience now available.
  • Improved value normalization for Bulk metadata uploads to better align values imported with existing values.
  • Added SFTP delivery as a new output option in the format engine.
  • We renamed the Chapter and Highlight and Languages and Accessibility tabs.
  • Added a pop-over to mention the move of multiple settings.
  • Fixed VAST ad creatives not playing correctly on iOS in some scenarios.
  • Fixed inactive assets still being included in HLS/Dash manifests.
  • Fixed HTML special characters rendering incorrectly in several places.
  • Fixed overlay elements no longer showing when using animated thumbnails in Shorts.
  • Fixed an issue where project–clip relationship labels could drift out of sync, causing interactivity context buttons to disappear from affected clips.
  • Fixed the React page player rendering too small on mobile.
  • Fixed an issue with outstream VAST XML failing in Capacitor WebView on iOS.
  • Fixed navigating back from a Channels playlist collection getting stuck in a loop.
  • Fixed dynamic playout switching ignoring configured ad units.
  • Fixed Channels prerolls not playing when multiple playouts are configured.
  • Fixed VMAP skippable ads preventing main content from playing after skipping.
  • Fixed the OVP notification pane and history pane.
  • Fixed audio widgets with datafeed sources playing the wrong audio during clip transitions.

SDK

  • React Native Channels now runs on React Native 0.85 for better performance and stability.
  • Updated Android SDK dependencies (krypto and kotlinx-datetime) for security and reliability improvements.
  • Fixed Android autoplay briefly showing controls and playing sound before muting.
  • Fixed the Channels SDK Play/Pause button icon being incorrect after auto-advancing to the next video.
