Placing an InArticle VideoBanner

There are two ways of creating and placing VideoBanners with Blue Billywig: Serviced or Self-Service

1.1 Serviced VideoBanner Placement

To create a serviced placement use the following steps:

  1. Send your VAST URL(s) over to the Blue Billywig Support Team
  2. Place the Javascript on your website

1: Send your VAST URL(s) to the Blue Billywig Support Team

You can reach us on support@bluebillywig.com to send over your VAST URL(s). Please specify your Ad System in place. We currently support VAST and VPAID compatible ad systems including the following:

  • DfP Premium
  • Dart
  • Videoplaza
  • OpenX
  • Zoomin
  • Videostrip

Note: Please note that our preferred playback technology is configured for HTML5 with fallback Flash support for devices and browsers which are not HTML5 compatible. In order to run VAST campaigns on HTML5 your ad system must be CORS enabled. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-origin_resource_sharing)

Multiple VAST URLs

In the case you want to make use of multiple VAST URLs please specify: * Whether the URLs should behave like in a hierarchical relation (the VideoBanner will use these URLs sequentially in order of priority, skipping each URL which returns an empty result) * Special targeting requirements (like Ad Units etc.)

Multiple Embed codes

For targetting and reporting purposes we create a distinct embed code for each website. We can also provide distinct embed codes to be used for different sections or locations on your website.

Text time remaining

By default the VideoBanner will show the text: “commercial time remaining: 00:00”.

2: Place the Javascript on your website

An example of the embedcode looks like this:

  1. <script src="http://client.bbvms.com/p/playoutname/c/123.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

The embed code can either be placed manually or on a position which is defined by your Content Management System. It is also possible to place the embedcode in an ad slot with your ad management system. Please do note: the embedcode should not be placed in an "unfriendly" iFrame. This will result in the player not working because it can not communicate with the page it is embedded on. If the player is placed in a friendly iFrame please make sure the "Attempt iFrame Breakout" option is enabled. (For more information, please refer to the chapter "Placement options" (2.7.6) on our Standard player playout settings page.

It is important that the embed script is placed in an object that has a width. CSS inline elements like span normally do not have a width when not content is placed within them. Your safest bet is to use a <div /> element without any CSS declarations that change it’s default “display:block” mode, or simply do not wrap the embed code with any element and make sure it’s direct parent is your article wrapper.

If you want to set up bi-directional communication between the VideoBanner and your Ad Management system please contact our support team for more information about the possibilities.

Placement options

If you want the player to dynamically find a spot to place itself in, please refer to the chapter "Placement options" (2.7.6) on our Standard player playout settings page.
